“The first premise of the book, is that we don’t actually have a weight loss problem. This is the thing that blows people’s minds. So the statistics are 6/7 overweight or obese people will lose a significant amount of bodyweight in their life. The problem is that the rate of relapse of weight regain is 50-75% within the year. Within 2 years its 85%, and 3 years it’s 95%. Of those that regain the weight, 1/3 to 2/3 will add more weight than they had before.”

Podcast Synopsis

Dr. Layne Norton, PhD received his undergraduate degree in BioChemistry, and then went on to get his doctorate in Nutritional Science. With extensive history in fitness “BioLayne” lives in Tampa, FL where he is a Bodybuilding/Figure/Physique coach. BioLayne is a professional Powerlifter, IFPA & NGA natural pro bodybuilder and tours around the nation giving seminars on fitness and nutrition.

BioLayne and I talked about health and nutrition and his book Fat Loss Forever. Layne competed in bodybuilding all throughout his education and got into powerlifting when he found that Nutrition was what he wanted to go into. He focused his research on protein and began coaching during his PhD research. As he learned in his coursework about nutrition and BioChemistry he would stay late after classes to talk about the subject application to bodybuilding and use what he learned in coaching.

One of my biggest questions was how to decipher what workouts and diets are worth it and which ones are good and which ones are bad. I have found that certain diets/workouts will be highly advocated for and a year later be condemned. BioLayne walks me through current statistics and his way of dieting and working out.
