Podcast Synopsis
Captain Jeff Maggio "LunkerDog" provides guide services in South Florida to fish for tarpon, snook, jacks, barracuda and many more species. Lunkerdog Fishing Charters provides gear, tackle and of course, BAIT! Listen as Capt. Jeff explains how he keeps shrimp alive for days.
You never know when you’re going to get a good dozen of live shrimp, Jeff goes to Bait ‘Em Up, and if they have some good looking shrimp he will get a few dozen extra. Jeff will be able to keep them for up to 4-5 days. He will fill two 5 gallon buckets of saltwater when he is done with his trip. Once at home he takes the empty water bottles from the trip and fills them with saltwater and puts them in the bait freezer.
Then he puts the shrimp in his cooler with a small amount of water. The way the cooler drains out keeps an inch of water, and you just keep putting water in there the longer you keep the shrimp. Then Jeff will keep the caps off the bottles of water from the freezer and put them in the cooler with the shrimp. With the ice water and a bubbler you can have up to 5 days of shrimp, without the frozen saltwater you may only get a day out of them.
