Jameson Reeder Jr. is one of the bravest young men I’ve ever had on this podcast. At just 10 years old, he was attacked by a bull shark while snorkeling at Lou Key in the Florida Keys. But what happened next was nothing short of miraculous.
From Peace to Panic
The Reeder family, longtime Florida natives, were enjoying a beautiful summer day at one of their favorite reefs. Jameson was snorkeling with a GoPro, following a sea turtle, when he was suddenly struck by a 9-foot bull shark. The shark severed his leg below the knee.
A Chain of Miracles
The story of what happened next is full of divine timing and brave decisions: a nurse swam through shark-infested water to help, another boat rushed him to shore, strangers called 911 before even knowing what happened. At every turn, there was help.
A Vision That Changed Everything
In the midst of the pain, Jameson had a vision of Jesus. In his words: "I felt everything. But I also felt peace. And I started singing ‘Here I Am To Worship’ as we raced back to shore."
Returning to the Reef
Incredibly, just 10 weeks after the attack, Jameson asked to return to the exact spot where it happened. The whole family joined him. He jumped in the water, faced his fear, and reclaimed his joy.
Shark Advocacy & Helping Others
Today, Jameson is a surfer, speaker, and budding rock climber. He helps others find hope in their darkest moments. His message? "Face your fear, and find freedom."
