Lawson started SEALFit in May 2013, and by November 2013, he was in a 20X event. This is an intense, 12-hour, nonstop event that will show you that you’re capable of 20 times more than you think you can do. This was Lawson’s stepping stone event to the SEALFit Kokoro, which is where our brotherhood really begins.

The boat is called Tame the Kraken, which has a much deeper meaning of overcoming fear and the unknown, as soldiers are having to do every day after returning from combat. In total, this challenge costs over $100,000 for all the prerequisites and medical supervision, but Tim’s main focus is to raise as much money as possible for PTSD victims.

Read MoreChasten Whitfield is a young lady who has devoted her life to helping others through fishing. She was introduced to me through my friend, Capt. Paul Fisicaro, who saw a news story on her and thought I might be interested in having her as a guest. After watching the story myself, I called her immediately and scheduled her to be on Saltwater Experience.
Read MoreClay recently returned from a trip to Cuba, where he fished in a string of islands 60 miles off the south coast that look very similar to the Florida Keys. The difference is that these islands are pristine and uninhabited. When traveling to Cuba, Clay needed to have research and educational purposes to be there, and Clay learned all he could about fishing there. Clay fished near Gardens of the Queen, a popular diving and fishing destination because it is one of the few intact reefs existing in the Caribbean.

I have found podcasts to be a way that I can use that time to learn a ton, stay entertained (and awake) and get to know people who I like, respect, or have admired their work in a much different and deeper way.
Read MoreI became interested in Will Taylor when I noticed his photos on Instagram. Each photo has a different look and feel to it, and I was very interested in his North Georgia waters. Blue Ridge, Georgia was only down the road about an hour away from where I grew up in Chattanooga, TN. Yet, I had no idea that trout the size of my leg lived there.
Read MoreI didn’t know anything about Joe, and didn’t know what to expect from my time with him, but I was also blown away by his story. From horrible conditions in Liberty City, FL (where Grand Theft Auto is set) to a 4.0 and honors in college, to a great job and being the author of several books before the age of 30. Then, he lost it all from a series of bad decisions, only to get it back and then some.
Read MoreI had the honor of recording this podcast in Bozeman, Montana with my son, Turner Rowland, and his roommate, Brendan Smith. Turner and Brendan both moved to Bozeman after graduating High School in pursuit of their love for hunting and fishing.
Recently, Turner just finished his first season as an elk hunting guide. For training, Turner started in September this year, and over the course of a month, spent two weeks bow hunting, and then two weeks of rifle hunting. Turner is out at camp base six days a week, and loves every minute of it. He developed an interest in hunting at an early age, and after seeing some elk videos in the mountains, Turner knew he wanted to be a guide.
Read MoreWhen choosing a bonefish fly, it is important to keep in mind the shape, size, and sink rates. Depending where you are fishing, you will need to have a heavier or lighter weight bonefish fly. For instance, if you are fishing in shallow water, you don’t want to throw a heavier weight bonefish fly in, as it will scare the fish away. Instead, you will want to have a lighter fly that will sink towards the bottom without having a strong, heavy impact.
Read MoreAfter meeting through Instagram, Will Taylor and I have had a lot of fun together. As a Blue Ridge native and a professional fly-fishing guide, Will guides mostly in the Northern Georgia area for giant trout. When Will isn’t a guide or out fishing, he loves being with his 16-month old daughter and watching her grow.

Read MoreI am not a podcast expert by any means, however I was able to get mine off the ground and have maintained it for 57 episodes so far. I learned how to do a podcast the hard way like most other things in my life. So, when I received multiple questions asking how I started or what equipment I use, I thought I would address this on the How2Tuesday episode.
Read MoreAfter two full How 2 Tuesday episodes featuring Graham Tayloe, I had the pleasure of sitting down with him for this full length podcast. If you ever get to hunt with Graham or even spend a little time with him, you will see how incredibly passionate he is about what he does. He is one of my favorite people all around and I love to go hunting and fishing with him as well.
I’m sure you will enjoy this podcast as much as I enjoyed sitting down with Graham and talking about his plethora of knowledge about the outdoors.
Read MoreWhy would you even want to keep the shrimp alive overnight? Well if you head out earlier than the bait shop is open, or if you have some left over from the previous day, then you will want live bait for tarpon or bonefish, etc…
The shrimp needs to rest, that is the key.
Read MoreI got to sit down with the hosts of Into The Blue television, Scott Walker and Steve Rodger. We spend a good bit of time together but after 12 hour fishing days, the last thing anyone wants to do is sit down and talk some more. We finally found a good time got it done.
We also got to have Jake Perry, who does our underwater filming, sit down with us and tell us about a swordfish that attacked him. If you know anything about swordfish, you know that they are no joke and Jake was very fortunate to come out of that situation unscathed.
We also heard about the origin stories of Into The Blue and how their fishing careers started as well as talking Hurricanes, Resilience, and the art of keeping and open mind and being open to learn from any source.

We start with 50 and taper down to 15. We start 4ft of 50lb, 2ft of 30lb, 1ft of 25lb then double the last distance of 2ft of 15lb.
